Museum of Slovak The Slovak National Uprising began on 29 August 1944 (during World War II) as a revolt against the entry of the German Wehrmacht into the territory of the Slovak Republic. It was the military uprising of the domestic resistance, whose center was city Banská Bystrica in Central Slovakia. The Influence of Slovak National Uprising on postwar development in Slovakia and the need to document and to maintain documentation on the active participation of Slovaks in fight against fascism, the need to maintain documentation about terror, victims and losses that caused nazium to humanity in World War II  led to the establishment of the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising. The SNP Memorial in Banská Bystrica is also a significant memorial place where official celebrations are held every year at the end of August.
